Shirotake Wahigasa(Parasol) “En”, Ume-komon
This is a Japanese parasol made of natural materials, not only the white bamboo handle but also all the small parts.
The wooden handle to hold the umbrella open is made of wood instead of metal, and the nails used to connect the parts are made of bamboo.
Bamboo nails are used to connect each part.
The indescribable sound of the wooden hajiki is pleasant when the umbrella is opened, and the white bamboo feels comfortable in the hand.
Ume Komon
Ume-komon is a symbol of prosperity of offspring because of the fast growth of the ume tree and its perseverance or vitality, and is also considered a lucky pattern representing the New Year.
Kyo Yuzen Paper
First, the “jizome” process is used to dye the base of the entire sheet of washi. This is followed by the “color insertion” process, in which a mold is used to dye the paper. The color insertion process is repeated as many times as the number of colors. Although this process is time-consuming, it produces a richly-colored pattern that cannot be achieved with print printing.
The handle grip is made of black bamboo, the hajiki which holds the umbrella open is made of wood, and bamboo nails are used to keep the rokuro, which connects the umbrella bones and the handle, in place.
Furthermore, stencil-dyed washi paper, which uses ombre gradation techniques in the dyeing processes to produce beautiful coloring, is used for the washi paper.
*Please note that these parasols may not be used in rainy weather.
Unryu (cloud dragon) paper is washi paper which has the long thin fibers of paper mulberry mixed in with pulp to create a cloud-like pattern. The unique texture highly improves its attraction as washi paper.
