[Watch the Gion Festival and experience using a Himewa umbrella]
Why not try making a miniature Japanese umbrella (Hime Wagasa) while watching the Gion Festival Yamahoko Junko procession on July 17, 2024?
We will be holding a special event where you can enjoy both the Japanese umbrella making experience and the Gion Festival. Why not spend a luxurious day watching the gorgeous Gion Festival while experiencing the traditional Japanese umbrella making experience of Kyoto?
Under the guidance of a craftsman, you can wear a Tsujikura happi coat and make your own original Japanese umbrella. This time, we will also have special Japanese paper with the design of the Gion Festival Hoko. This event, where you can experience the Japanese spirit while touching history and culture, is enjoyable for both adults and children.
Tea and sweets will be provided. Why not spend a special summer in Kyoto with your family and friends? Participants will receive a Gion Festival hand towel as a memento of the festival.
It takes about 90 minutes to make a Himewa umbrella. Outside of that time, you are free to come and watch at any time you like. The viewing area is standing room only, at the entrances on the 5th and 7th floors of the Tsujikura Building.
The video and photos are from the 5th floor of the Tsujikura Building last year. Please make your reservation early as there is a limited capacity. Only event participants can enter. Please refrain from entering with accompanying persons.
