Tsujikura "Kiwami" Sukeroku
Kyoto "Kurotani Washi" × Kyoto "Wagasa-ya Tsujikura"
Kyoto's traditional crafts have been passed down through a long history.
"Kurotani Washi," from the papermaking village of Ayabe in Kyoto, is a rare type of Japanese paper meticulously handmade sheet by sheet by artisans.
Due to its durability and longevity, it is also used for the restoration of cultural properties.
We are pleased to present an exquisite masterpiece created by the skilled artisans of Tsujikura, who have spent significant time crafting a janome (snake-eye) umbrella using this luxurious Kurotani Washi.
A collaboration between "Kyoto Kurotani Washi" and "Kyoto Wagasa-ya Tsujikura."
"Sukeroku"
A distinguished janome umbrella featuring a deep purplish-brown tone,
boldly accented with a large, unbleached white ring.
"Sukeroku" is a stylish design for a janome umbrella,
derived from the famous Kabuki play of the same name,
one of the "Kabuki Juhachiban" (the eighteen best plays).
Also known as a "futatsugiri" (two-section) janome, it is characterized by
being crafted so that the width of the inner and outer colored sections is nearly equal.
The elegant composition of the ring gives the entire umbrella a sense of strength and dignity.
With a vibrancy that would shine on a Kabuki stage,
and a dignified presence that evokes the chic spirit of the Edo period.
Neither too flashy nor too understated, its striking presence
makes it truly an umbrella for adults.
Meticulously crafted by the hands of artisans,
it possesses the profound beauty unique to a Tsujikura special selection.
A chic and prestigious janome umbrella that inherits traditional designs
while remaining perfectly suited to the modern day.
