Kyoto Kurotani Special Selection Parasol "Byakko" (Ecru)
Kyoto "Kurotani Washi" x Kyoto "Wagasa-ya Tsujikura"
Traditional crafts that have been protected and nurtured throughout a long history.
"Kurotani Washi," produced in the papermaking village of Ayabe, Kyoto, is an exceptionally rare Japanese paper made entirely by hand by craftsmen, one sheet at a time. Its characteristic strength and longevity make it suitable for long-term preservation, and it is even used for the restoration of cultural assets. We have commissioned the production of specialized washi paper for Tsujikura's Japanese umbrellas using this rare Kurotani Unryu-shi (cloud-dragon paper).
Made with an uncompromising commitment to authentic raw materials.
It is not just about the splendor; we hope you will hold it in your hands and feel the long story that unfolds until it is fully crafted.
■ Unbleached: Enjoy the natural color of the washi paper itself.
◇ Each point of charm - A Japanese umbrella to be felt with the five senses -
・Black bamboo is used for the handle. The feel when gripped in the hand is smooth and comfortable.
・The kozo fibers of the Unryu-shi are visible when held up to the sun.
*Unryu-shi refers to paper that features cloud-like patterns created by scattering long, hand-torn kozo fibers across the base paper.
・The crisp sound of the folded washi paper separating one by one when opening the umbrella.
・For the catch (hajiki) that determines how wide the umbrella opens, we used wood rather than metal. The sound of the wooden catch clicking into place is a pleasant resonance.
We present to you this superb masterpiece from the collaboration of "Kyoto Kurotani Washi" and "Kyoto Wagasa-ya Tsujikura."
