The "Kurotani Washi" paper-making village in Ayabe, Kyoto, produces extremely rare Japanese paper, where each and every sheet is crafted by the hands of artisans. It is characterized by its durability and longevity, and because it can withstand long-term preservation, it is also used for the restoration of cultural properties. We have had Tsujikura’s exclusive Japanese umbrella paper made using this rare Kurotani Unryushi (cloud-dragon paper).

◇ Every alluring detail - A Japanese umbrella to be felt with the five senses -
・Black bamboo is used for the handle. It feels smooth and comfortable in your hand.
・When held up to the light, you can see the kozo (mulberry) fibers of the Unryushi.
*Unryushi is paper that features cloud-like patterns created by scattering long, hand-torn kozo fibers over the base paper.
・The crisp, crackling sound of the folded Japanese paper separating one by one as you open the umbrella.
・Instead of metal, we used a wooden "hajiki" (latch) to secure the umbrella's opening. The click of the wooden latch produces a pleasant sound.

How to Use the Wagasa
When you walk carrying the closed umbrella, please grasp the head of the Wagasa, or for Janome please grasp the cord on the head, and for Bangasa please hold the leather strings bound around the head.

How to Open the Wagasa
The Wagasa may be difficult to open due to the waterproof grease on the Washi. Please lightly grasp the bottom of the runner at the bottom inside the umbrella, and slowly and carefully push to the top to open the Wagasa.
