Tsujikura "Kiwami" Special Tsukiyakko, Unryu Purple with Snowstorm Pattern
■Kyoto "Kurotani Washi" x Kyoto "Wagasa-ya Tsujikura"
Kyoto's traditional crafts have been passed down through a long history.
"Kurotani Washi," from the papermaking village of Ayabe, Kyoto, is a rare form of Japanese paper that craftsmen meticulously finish by hand, one sheet at a time.
Because it is durable and long-lasting, it is even used for the restoration of cultural properties.
This is a Janome-gasa (snake-eye umbrella) luxuriously crafted from that Kurotani Washi, painstakingly made by Tsujikura's master artisans.
We are pleased to present this exquisite masterpiece, a collaboration between "Kyoto Kurotani Washi" and "Kyoto Wagasa-ya Tsujikura."
■Special Selection Tsukiyakko: "Unryu Murasaki ni Fubuki" (Purple Cloud-Dragon with Snowstorm)
A piece that layers the rich texture of expressive Washi
over a deep purple moonlight.
"Unryu" refers to
"cloud-dragon paper,"
in which long fibers flow like clouds or dragons.
The movement of the fibers itself becomes the design,
creating a powerful visual unique to Japanese paper.
"Fubuki" (Snowstorm) is Washi
finished by intentionally leaving behind the outer skin and black bark
that would normally be removed when papermaking with white mulberry fibers.
Traces of nature appear as if scattered,
evoking the feeling of swirling snow.
The flow of the Unryu paper
and the fibers of the Fubuki overlap,
in a composition that highlights the beauty of the materials themselves.
Because this Japanese umbrella is made primarily from natural materials,
the texture of the Washi stands out all the more.
It is a piece that does not rely on color for decoration,
but instead speaks through its materials.
A Special Selection Tsukiyakko worthy of the Tsujikura "Kiwami" (Ultimate) name,
allowing you to savor the expression of the Washi.
