'Kurotani Washi,” from the paper-making village of Ayabe, Kyoto, is a very rare type of Japanese paper that is made entirely by hand by craftsmen; each sheet is handmade by hand.

Kurotani washi is used in the restoration of cultural properties because it is durable and long-lasting, and can withstand long-term preservation. Tsujikura's skilled craftsmen carefully and painstakingly make the parasol out of this rare Kurotani washi paper.

■Danjuro-cha
Danjuro-cha is a traditional color named after the Edo period Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro, who liked to use it. This color is a slightly reddish brown with an elegant hue that evokes depth and serenity. It has a Japanese flavor that seems to blend in with nature, and has long been a favorite color of the Japanese people.

Danjuro-cha, used for Wagasa, gives a nostalgic yet fresh impression and is a perfect blend of traditional beauty and modern sensibility. This hue blends well with Japan's four seasons and landscapes, especially when contrasted with the green of trees and autumn leaves.

How to Use the Wagasa
When you walk carrying the closed umbrella, please grasp the head of the Wagasa, or for Janome please grasp the cord on the head, and for Bangasa please hold the leather strings bound around the head.

How to Open the Wagasa
The Wagasa may be difficult to open due to the waterproof grease on the Washi. Please lightly grasp the bottom of the runner at the bottom inside the umbrella, and slowly and carefully push to the top to open the Wagasa.
