Matte Finish Special Selection Janome Pattern "Purple Dragon in a Blizzard"
—Matte Janome (Bullseye) Pattern—
Just as many beautiful ukiyo-e paintings depict women holding janome umbrellas, this design has been cherished since long ago. In addition to the classic white-ringed janome design, Tsujikura has created janome patterns featuring a variety of color combinations.
The "Matte Janome" revives traditional wagasa specifications, featuring a black bamboo handle and wooden components to hold the umbrella open.
Furthermore, the lacquer applied to the umbrella ribs is a matte black. Rather than the traditional glossy lacquer, this finish offers a deep, subdued texture that enhances the stylish elegance of the umbrella when opened.
Tsujikura has breathed new life into the traditional janome pattern passed down from our predecessors.
【Blizzard with Purple Dragon】
This janome umbrella combines "Fubuki" (blizzard) hand-made washi paper from Kurotani, Kyoto, with purple Unryu (cloud-dragon) paper.
"Fubuki" is a deeply expressive washi paper that is crafted by intentionally leaving fine natural particles during the papermaking process, resulting in a unique, natural appearance for every sheet.
On this soft, unbleached paper base, we have placed purple Unryu paper—with its cloud-like flowing fibers—at the janome center.
The combination of subdued unbleached tones and deep purple creates a harmonious look.
Layered with the unique fiber patterns of the Unryu paper, this piece possesses both depth and a touch of glamour within its quiet aesthetic.
The matte finish allows the rustic texture of the Kurotani washi and the delicate expression of the "Purple Dragon" to stand out even more beautifully.
While maintaining a traditional janome design, the elegant purple adds a sharp, sophisticated accent, making it perfect for kimono, as well as for interior decor in shops, ryokan, or traditional Japanese restaurants.
This is a unique Tsujikura janome umbrella that allows you to enjoy the individual character of both Kurotani "Fubuki" washi and purple Unryu paper.
