Join us for a special event where you can create a miniature wagasa (Hime Wagasa) while watching the Gion Festival Yamaboko Parade on July 17, 2024.
A special event will be held where you can enjoy both Wagasa making and Gion Festival viewing. Why not spend a luxurious day experiencing Kyoto’s elegant Wagasa making and watching the spectacular Gion Festival?
Under the guidance of a craftsman, you can wear Tsujikura’s happi and make your own original Wagasa. This time, we also offer special Washi paper with a design of Gion Festival float. This event is a great opportunity to experience history and culture while feeling the Japanese spirit, and is fun for adults and children alike.
Tea and tea sweets will be provided. Why don’t you take your time and spend a special summer in Kyoto with your family and friends? Participants will receive a Gion Festival tenugui (hand towel) as a memento of the festival.
It takes about 90 minutes to make a Hime Wagasa. During the rest of the day, visitors are free to view the Gion Festival. The viewing area will be standing room only from the entrances on the 5th and 7th floors of the Tsujikura Building.
動画&The video and photos here are from last year’s event from the 5th floor of the Tsujikura Building. Capacity is limited, so please reserve early. Only event attendees are allowed to enter. Please refrain from bringing companions to this event.
