This umbrella is made with Washi paper. It is slim and light, the most simple style and easy to use. It is recommended for the first Wagasa. Maiko and Geiko in Kyoto are actually using this type of Wagasa.Tsujikura’s original gem using Etchu handmade Japanese paper KIWAMI.
The main raw materials are the finest handmade washi paper made from strong fibers of paper mulberry, dyed with plants and trees, and bamboo. The number of pieces produced per year is rare.
Hatoba” is a pale blue-purple color with a hint of gray, like the wings of a dove. It became popular as a color for kimonos after the Meiji era (1868-1912), and is still widely used for kimonos and kimono accessories today.
The hajiki, which is used to hold the umbrella open, is made of wood instead of metal fittings, which makes it closer to the traditional Japanese snake eyes umbrella. We hope you will feel the pleasant sound when opening and closing the umbrella, which can only be experienced with wooden hajiki.
